Tim McMullen Founder/Financial Advisor
Tim comes from a humble background and loves interacting with people, so it’s little surprise his greatest satisfaction comes from helping his clients gain clarity, so they can solve for tomorrow and enjoy today.
Inspired to enter the financial services industry by a late uncle who was a stockbroker and mentor, Tim began his career as a regional vice president at Tristate Financial Advisors. With a Steel City work ethic learned from his parents — his dad worked as a commercial painter while his mom worked as a legal assistant — this Pittsburgh native founded McMullen Financial Group in 2024 to provide retirees and pre-retirees with comprehensive financial planning.
After previously working with many underserved clients nearing retirement, Tim is especially passionate about helping clients maximize their workplace benefits and craft sound retirement income strategies. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2019 with a finance degree and economics minor, and he can provide both investment and insurance products and services.
Tim lives in southern New Jersey with his wife, Liz, and daughter, Eleanor. He and Liz were married in 2023 but have been a couple since 2015. They also have two cats, Simba and Mittens, and a dog, Mickey. Outside the office, Tim loves to golf and cheer on his Pittsburgh Penguins (sorry, Flyers fans). He also enjoys collecting cars.
Take Five
Five facts about Tim McMullen:
1. Tim’s passion for interacting with people was born in high school and college while working with his father, a commercial painter and sole business owner. Tim enjoyed meeting a wide range of his dad’s clients — from CEOs to proud, hardworking Pittsburgh natives. “You’re able to make really good connections,” Tim said.
2. Tim’s favorite athlete growing up was longtime hockey great Sidney Crosby, who led the Penguins to Stanley Cups in 2009, 2016 and 2017.
3. An admitted older soul, Tim listed the Eagles’ 1978 Grammy Award-winning hit “Hotel California” as a possible theme song. “I’m a younger guy, but I probably come off as I’m 50 or 60 in most client meetings,” Tim said. “I’m in an older mindset where I’ve got a family at home. I want to make sure that they’re taken care of.”
4. Tim likes to travel, especially to beaches and tropical places, but with baby Eleanor now blessing the lives of Tim and Liz, he admits his excursions have been pushed to the backburner.
5. Tim lists Travis Mathew as one of his brand heroes, in part because the men’s sports apparel maker shares Tim’s initials (TM).
